Solving your most pressing materials science challenges

Whether you’re developing novel materials or investigating product defects, you need fast, reproducible data that moves your research forward. In our April issue, we discuss multiple ways to accelerate battery research. We introduce you to our X-ray diffraction (XRD) video library. And we demonstrate how Thermo Scientific instruments can help you do everything from imaging liquid nanoparticles to investigating aircraft engine thermal barrier coatings. We hope you enjoy.

Perform safer battery research with the Phenom XL G2 Argon-Compatible Desktop SEM

Are you researching safer lithium-ion batteries but need a solution to the volatility of solid-state lithium? The new Thermo Scientific Phenom XL G2 Argon-Compatible Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) offers just that. With this newly launched desktop SEM, you can now perform solid-state lithium battery research in a non-reactive argon environment.

The Phenom XL G2 Argon-Compatible Desktop SEM can be placed in an argon glove box, allowing both sample preparation and SEM and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis within the same workspace. This setup enables research on solid-state lithium batteries since it decreases the risk of sample degradation due to lithium oxidation. The instrument also retains sample integrity, while saving time and resources, by eliminating the need to move research samples from one instrument to another.
